Le jeune Aslak, 6 ans, vit avec sa mère Astrid dans un petit village de Norvège, entre mer et montagnes. Un tragique événement survient alors, sans que le garçon ne comprenne vraiment ce qui lui arrive. Un jour, Lasse, l’ami d’Aslak, lui montre une scène macabre : trois moutons à moitié dévorés lors d’une nuit de pleine lune. En quête de réponses, Aslak s'aventure dans la forêt menaçante située près de chez lui. Ce qui s'y joue tient-il de l’imagination du jeune garçon ou de la réalité ?
