Depuis, il téléphone à sa famille chaque année à l'occasion de l'anniversaire de sa mère, Olivia, prenant bien soin de couper aussitôt la communication pour éviter les questions. Dans l'ignorance, Olivia se ronge les sangs, espérant le retour de Mathieu. Lorsqu'elle est victime d'une attaque après avoir cru voir son fils, Caroline, sa fille, décide d'agir pour mettre fin au calvaire familial. Elle part à la recherche de son frère. Son enquête va la conduire au coeur d'une affaire trouble : deux jeunes femmes ont disparu en l'espace de dix ans et tout accuse son frère. Est-il le meurtrier recherché par la police ou la victime d'une horrible machination ?...
