Il fait la connaissance d'un vieil homme, Marlowe, qui lui confie un manuscrit, "Murder of Crows", dont il serait l'auteur. A la mort de Marlowe, Russell decide de publier l'ouvrage sous son nom. C'est un succes immediat. Jusqu'au moment ou un detective decouvre que tous les crimes evoques dans le livre ont eu lieu. Russell devient d'un seul coup le suspect numero un.
