Max, un caïd du milieu, s'échappe de prison en compagnie d'un codétenu, Pierre, surnommé "le séminariste". Ils ont pour dessein de récupérer à Rome un magot enterré par Max, en profitant de la foule présente dans la capitale italienne à l'occasion de l'Année Sainte. Ils prennent donc l'avion, déguisés en ecclésiastiques, mais l'engin est détourné par des Pirates de l'air.
