Dans un futur proche, chaque foyer possède un androïde domestique, appelé « techno-sapiens ». Dans la famille de Jake, il s’appelle Yang, et veille plus particulièrement sur la jeune Mika, assurant pour cette petite fille adoptée d’origine chinoise, un rôle de tuteur, d’ami, de confident.
